Tizzy’s Movie Review: “Saw V”

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

saw-v.jpgIn the spirit of Halloween coming tomorrow, I went to see Saw V.  Nothing like watching a horror movie to get you in the mood!  Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved scary movies.  I’ve seen the others in the series, so I was looking forward to seeing the fifth, and I was disappointed to say the least.

OMG – where do I start?  The combination of amateur acting, over the top gore and easy predictability made this movie almost unbearable to sit through.  I’ve always enjoyed how the Saw movies were psychological thrillers, but Jigsaw disappointed me this time around.  My 13-year-old god sister could’ve done a better job than anyone in this movie.

I’d say avoid this one unless you have a tradition of seeing a new scary movie every Halloween or you have a coupon for a free ticket.

Who to take to this movie: a young adult who loves gore

Don’t see this movie if: you have a weak stomach or can’t stand bad acting

Overall rating: ½ snap

Tizzy’s Movie Review: “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

hsm3-dance.jpgSo instead of enjoying this unusually warm weather today, I decided to cozy up in a movie theater and finally catch HSM 3: Senior Year.  The movie opened at $42 million, so I knew I had to check what all the buzz was about!

First off, if you hated high school, don’t see this movie!  It’ll make you want to gag yourself with a spoon with all its cheesiness and happiness of being the popular kids in school.  When they break into song about winning the championship basketball game or being in love, you’ll hate yourself for spending the $9 to see it.

However, if you loved high school, there’s a chance you’ll enjoy this film. Yea, they randomly start singing a bit too much (I know, I know, it’s a musical, but sometimes the songs seemed forced just for the sake of having a song), and it’s pretty odd that the two stars of the basketball team also happen to be stars in the musical, but whatever.  Put those thoughts on the backburner and soak in Disney’s genius kid project.  Now I can definitely see why Zac Efron was chosen to be in the new Footloose.  Not only can that boy dance, but his acting chops have significantly grown since the first HSM.

Who to take to this movie: any kid you’re looking after

Don’t see this movie if: you’re going on a date and you’re older than a high school senior

jolie-and-pitt.jpgHollywood star Angelina Jolie has told People magazine she’s expecting pressure from her children to marry partner Brad Pitt. “Usually people fall in love and everything revolves around the ritual of marriage – children are an afterthought. We did everything backwards,’ she explains. “But sooner or later it will be the kids who ask us to get married. You know, they see films and start asking questions. Such as, “Why are Shrek and Fiona married and you’re not?” (Handbag) (more…)

aniston-and-butler.jpgWhile Jennifer Aniston was seen hooking up with old flame, John Mayer, recently, it’s nice to see she hasn’t gone all crazy.  Page Six is reporting that the “Friends” star was seen having a cozy dinner at LA’s Tower Bar, with Britain’s Gerard Butler.
