If I had to sum up this movie in three words, they would be: cheesy but entertaining. The book turned movie dominated theaters this weekend. Author Stephanie Meyer wrote a captivating tale of a vampire and human falling in love, but it failed to come across the silver screen seriously.
A girl named Bella moves in with her father in the small town of Forks, WA. What better place for vampires to live than a rainy, gray town? She falls for one of the vampires at her school, Edward, and not only are there the awkward, hormonal moments of teen dating, but add the concept of a blood sucking vampire to the mix, and you’ve got yourself a unique love story packed with some pretty cool acrobatics.
I found myself laughing more in this movie than I had expected. I’m not quite sure if the director wanted to incorporate a lot of humor or if I just couldn’t hold back from the cheesy lines. From the way the popular kids talked to the lack of speech from the pale vampires in high school, they seemed to live up to their stereotypes.
Who to take to this movie: young adults who dig vampires
Don’t see this movie if: you’ve never liked a movie that was a book first
