Tizzy’s Movie Review: “Valkyrie”

valkyrie.jpgTom Cruise stars in the World War II movie about Germans trying to assassinate Adolf Hitler.  With a lineup of A-list actors, it seemed like it would be a success.  Even though the story was very interesting, this movie was lacking one major thing: continuity.

What drove me crazy about this movie was that everyone is supposed to be German, but there were no consistent accents!  Some actors were American (Cruise), others were British (Eddie Izzard), and others were German (Hitler).  I thought that if everyone was supposed to be German, they’d use German accents, or at least stick with one accent. That disconnect really ruined it for me.

The scenes were suspenseful and intensely dramatic, but the movie lacked action.  I’m used to war movies having many explosive scenes, but this one kicked off with it and then quit.  Valkyrie is definitely more of a suspense film than a war action one.

Who to take to this movie: World War II fans

Don’t see this movie if: you can’t handle multiple accents for one group
