Dr. Nadar Kamangar, a pulmonary and critical care doctor who specializes in sleep medicine, took the stand in the Dr. Conrad Murray manslaughter case on Thursday. The doctor called Murrays use of Propofol “inconceivable,”
“unethical,” and “disturbing.” Kamangar said he found “multiple extreme deviations” in Murray’s standard of care as it relates to insomnia.
* Dr. Kamangar told the court insomnia is a common problem in the ICU he
said he uses Propofol on a daily basis.
* Kamangar said Propofol should be used with extreme caution because it can be
unpredictable, especially when used with other sedatives.
* He said Murray’s treatment of Michael Jackson amounted to “gross negligence.”
* According to Kamangar , Murray should have never given MJ any sedatives
because he was dehydrated which means his blood pressure was already low.
* He also said Murray’s failure to call 911 was an “unconscionable deviation of
care” adding, Murray wasted critical time calling MJ’s assistant instead of
calling 911.
* Kamangar told the court Murray broke one of the first rules of medicine –
putting your patient first — when he withheld information from ER docs.
* He also said Murray behaved unethically when he chose to ignore “clear signs”
of MJ’s drug addiction.
Hilary Swank is apologizing to about anyone who will listen in order to make her commitment to human rights clear. The Oscar winner had attended a ribbon cutting ceremony and wished happy birthday to Chechen President Ramzam Kadyrov. Swank says she accepted the invitation “because the construction project was described to her as a symbol of hope for the people of Chechnya, a region that had been devastated by war.” Critics argue that Swank’s presence and birthday wishes was disrespectful as the Chechen president is responsible for torturing and/or murdering a number of individuals. The Human Rights Commission claims it also sent Swank a letter ahead of the event explaining why attendance would be a massive mistake.
