The Jane Report

Getting engaged over the weekend was the first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson! She and boyfriend, Brandon Blackstock, son of her manager, Narvel Blackstock and step son of Reba McIntyre, announced on twitter on Saturday that they were engaged. The two have been dating for about ten months. Kelly tweeted a photo of the gigantic ring, a yellow canary diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds. No wedding date has yet been announced.
Jessica Simpson might go from bridesmaid directly to bride. RadarOnline.com claims she and fiancé Eric Johnson are heading to Hawaii on Friday, and they’ve invited, quote, “a lot of their close friends and family” to join them. A source says, quote, “Family members are speculating that they could be planning a surprise wedding.”
Carrie Underwood, who is currently wrapping up the first leg of her 90-date Blown Away arena tour, lost her voice earlier this week following a concert in Chicago, but she decided to go ahead with her show at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday night.
Though the country diva powered through her songs for more than 90 minutes, reportedly cutting just a few from her set, she wasn’t satisfied with her performance. And so she decided to make it up to her faithful ticket buyers by pledging to donate any money she made from the concert back to Des Moines. “I feel real guilty about making any money on this show tonight,” Underwood croaked with effort. “So whatever I’m making is just going to go right back into this community.” Pretty tough to argue with a gesture like that.
Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana went on “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend, to perform the unreleased Nirvana song “Cut Me Some Slack”. They introduced it last week at the “12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief” benefit.
If you haven’t seen it, Mandy Patinkin from “Homeland” did an interview with “Good Day New York” last week, and one of the hosts had to leave in the middle of it . . . because his WIFE went into labor. The funny part was how amped MANDY was over it. First his voice went up, and he kept screaming about how excited he was. Then when the other host tried to continue interviewing him about “Homeland”, he kept going back to it.
Last night it was Jamie Foxx’s turn to sit down with Oprah on “Oprah’s Next Chapter”. He talked about a low point in his career, when Chris Tucker followed him at a comedy club and he found out he wasn’t funny anymore. It was after he had left “In Living Color”. He let his success go to his head, and he did a stand-up routine where only one person clapped. Then outside the club, he heard the place shaking . . . and back inside it was Chris Tucker on stage, and he had the crowd rocking.
Jamie also told a funny story about performing for American troops in Japan, and how it pushed him to get himself back together. He had gained some weight, and at one point a female soldier in the audience yelled out, quote, “Why your belly so big?” And after that he started working out again and getting his career together, and it made him more humble from then on.
It appears that Simon Cowell wants Rhianna to fill the judges spot on “The X Factor” next season, replacing L.A. Reid, who has announced that he will not be returning next season. A source from The Sun newspaper reports Cowell will offer her a role as judge of either the U.K. or U.S. “X Factor” and thinks she can help boost ratings because of her stardom and the fact that she’s “feisty.”
Lindsay Lohan finally thanked Charlie Sheen for paying $100,000 of what she owes the IRS. Sheen and Lohan became friends on the set of “Scary Movie 5,” and when he found out that the actress owed $230,000 to Uncle Sam, he wrote her a check for a hundred grand. Last week, though Sheen complained that Lohan hadn’t thanked him for his act of generosity, saying “I’m still waiting for a text to say ‘thank you,’” he said. “Anything, you know?” As of this weekend, however, Lohan sent flowers and a card to Sheen to say thanks.
In the meantime, Lindsay finally has admitted that she’s in deep trouble and needs professional help. While she believed she turned over a new leaf in March after completing her sentence in the jewelry heist case, it turns out she never did follow the judges advice of staying out of night clubs and concentrate on her work. While Lindsay knows her life is out of control, some of the old Lindsay remains as she blames her problems on others, saying she hooked up with a bad group of people and had run-ins with “opportunists” who have tried to provoke her. She also insists she has no problem with drugs or alcohol.
