The “highlight” of the “American Idol” auditions in Denver last night came at the end when a guy named Ty Hemmerling came on set in a bikini and began to speak/sing Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Achy Breaky Heart”. It resulted in the judges fleeing the set. As they beat feet Kara DioGuardi told Bikini Boy, “Don’t move your hips like that, honey. It’s not a good look.” Bikini Boy responded to the flight with, “That’s kind of rude. I think you should at least stay. Kara, please stay! Can I get a hug?” … Read the rest of this entry »

Wow – what a fun show! It’s hard to find something where you’re completely engaged and entertained the whole time, and this show was just that. It’s super close to the movie, so it won’t disappoint fans of the flick (that starred Reese Witherspoon). It’s packed with tons of pink and high pitched squeals of joy, so you may want to leave your man at home for this one, unless he liked the movie too.
For those who are unfamiliar with the story, it tells the tale of UCLA sorority president Elle Woods who thinks she has her life figured out - her boyfriend will propose, and after he graduates law school, they’ll live happily ever after. Problem is he dumps her before he leaves, so she becomes determined to follow him and joins him at Harvard Law. Her perky personality and loud pink fashion don’t exactly fit in, but she’s determined to win her man back and prove that she can be serious thanks to the help of new friends.
I was really impressed with how well the movie translated to the stage. The songs are absolutely hilarious, especially one with the line “is he gay or European?” More laugh out loud moments filled the theater whenever the UPS delivery man showed up at the salon.
There is so much infectious bubbliness on stage that you can’t help but smile throughout the whole thing. Plus, the live dogs are absolutely adorable, and it’s good for girls of all ages because the adult humor isn’t too in your face. “Legally Blonde The Musical” is playing at the Buell Theatre now through February 14. Get your tickets by calling 303-893-4100 or at www.denvercenter.org.
Who to take to this musical: the favorite ladies in your life

MTV did an online poll asking fans to vote for their favorite performance at Sunday night’s Grammys and Pink came out on top with 33 percent of the vote. Pink had a big advantage because producers had her perform solo. Most of the rest of the night’s performances were mismatched collaborations that were mediocre to horrible. The Lady Gaga/Elton John duet came in second. … Read the rest of this entry »

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, By Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
(Reviewed by Jane)
Okay, I’ll admit it. I TRIED to read the Jane Austen original several times and could never get much further than a couple of chapters. I had to be content with reading “Bridget Jones Diary” (or watching the movie), which was really a modern re-telling of this classic. So, when I ran across “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” I was intrigued enough to pick it up and give it another try.
If you’re unfamiliar with “Pride and Prejudice”, it’s the story of a group of British sisters, the Bennetts, set in the early 1800s. They have a ditzy, social climbing mother, who is desperate to marry all of them off. Mostly, they go to parties and share in each other’s dramas. Elizabeth is the sister we learn the most about, thanks to her love/hate relationship with Mr. Darcy. All in all, kind of a silly story, if you ask me. … Read the rest of this entry »

Chatting with Oprah yesterday, Jay Leno said being asked six years ago to step aside so Conan O’Brien could take over the “Tonight” how came as a crushing blow. “It broke my heart, it really did,” he said. “I was devastated.” He revealed that NBC executives told him in 2004 that they didn’t want to lose O’Brien and were going to ask him take over Leno’s spot as host in 2009. “That was pretty shocking,” Leno said. “I most certainly did,” feel disrespected. … Read the rest of this entry »

This predictable romantic comedy tells the story about how a girl who never believed in love was forced to start doing so. All because she stole some coins out of the fountain of love in Rome during her sister’s wedding. With big time funny guys like Will Arnett and Danny DeVito, you’d think that it would be a roaring romp, but it’s pretty lukewarm.
I found Kristen Bell’s character to be so annoying. Her “love isn’t real” shpeel got so old after a while. I get it – you’re not the loving type even though you’re incredibly lonely and deep down know that you’re wrong! Even Josh Duhamel’s character, her main love interest, becomes so confused with her that I think his annoyed undertone wasn’t acting.
This was a bit of a disappointment for me. There were only a few laugh-out-loud moments, and I was hoping for more. It’s a cute flick for girlfriends but not so much for a couple to enjoy.
Who to take to this movie: girlfriends who are suckers for love
Don’t see this movie if: you’re going on a first date
